How green is Hetzner?
Hetzner is in the Green Web Foundation's directory of verified green hosting providers (we checked on 1 November 2026).
What the Foundation's verification means
Hetzner says all the electricity for its German sites comes from renewable sources, and that its German data centres have used sustainable power since 2008. A supplier certificate states that its whole electricity demand in 2025 was covered by hydropower from European plants, though it doesn’t say whether guarantees of origin back it. Hetzner says it has not yet completed a full greenhouse gas inventory.
Web hosting runs in Hetzner's own data-centre park in Nuremberg. Its cloud and dedicated servers are also offered in Finland, the USA and Singapore.
The data centres we list are in Germany, where the grid averages 334 g CO2e per kWh, against 218 g in the UK. Lower is cleaner.
