How green is IONOS?

IONOS is in the Green Web Foundation's directory of verified green hosting providers (we checked on 1 November 2026).

What the Foundation's verification means

IONOS’s web pages say its data centres run entirely on renewable electricity, but its 2025 sustainability report limits that to its nine own sites, where it buys renewable power directly from suppliers. For rented space in other companies’ data centres, the report gives 90.4% renewable in 2025, counted from operators’ claims, certificates it bought and the average renewable share of national grids. Counting the grid average is a weaker basis than a supply contract.

IONOS's own data centres and rented space in other companies' data centres; its pages do not say which hosting runs where.

The data centres we list are in 5 countries, whose grids average 226 g CO2e per kWh, against 218 g in the UK. Lower is cleaner.

The grid in each country
Each country's average grid carbon intensity, from Ember: the grid where the data centres are, not the provider's own supply.
